Kira Town municipality is located in Wakiso District in the Central Region of Uganda, with Uganda’s second-largest city by population. It is managed by the Kira Town Council, an urban local government.
Kira Municipality is the largest town in Uganda by population. The town is the second-largest urban center in the country, after Kampala. The population growth is attributed to the kira’s proximity to Kampala.
Kira Municipality is surrounded by the following towns: Mukono, Gayaza, Kasangati and Kampala.
Kira town is approximately 14 kilometers east of the Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city.
Kira Municipality is made up of 3 Divisions of Namugongo, Kira and Bweyogere and parishes of Bweyogerere, Kimwanyi, Kira, Kireka, Kirinnya and Kyaliwajjala.
Kira municipality is head by His Worship the Mayor. Julius Mutebi Nsubuga.
Main areas of focus in Kira municaplity are: Mandela National Stadium, Uganda Martyrs at Namugongo, The Catholic Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs and Kabaka’s Palace at Kireka.
Road network especially Kampala Northern Bypass Highway the direct route to Kampala and other areas like Masaka, Mukono, Jinja and Entebbe town.
Major schools include: Makerere college, Uganda martyrs, Vienna college, Nalya secondary school, st Peter’s nalya.
Major shopping centers: Quality shopping centers Namugongo.
